General Motors Corp. notified 1,100 of its dealers Friday to let them know the company does not want them to continue selling new GM vehicles.

A letter went to roughly 19 percent of the dealers in the country. If the same percentage were notified locally, 18 of the total 92 GM dealers in metro Detroit would likely have gotten the letter.

But that wasn't apparent by calling dealers.

Nearly 30 local car dealers were contacted by Crain's Friday. None admitted to having received the letter. None were willing to discuss who received a letter or returned phone calls to Crain's.
